I recently photographed some of my friends children for fun. At least as a temporary experiment/series. Not the traditional “say cheese” kind of stuff, but more editorial, like I’d approach any other shoot. After thinking more about it, I’ve realized how intriguing this is for a long list of reasons:
• No hair/makeup needed
• No 8-12 hour shoots. 1 hour and I’m out.
• No entourages or difficult publicists/management
• No 60-90 day payment plans like most clients
• No retouching necessary
• No waiting for 6-9 months before showing the finished, published pieces. I can release art whenever I want.
• No deep insecurities like most adults have
The list goes on but you get the idea. It starts to sound like heaven.
Just me, my gear and kids. I can do this.
The following are from 2 different shoots at friends houses. Both shoots were done on the same day.. an hour at each house.
Photographing children and young adults is so tough. Thanks Jeremy. Great pics
@jeremycowart I love these. They are unique and moving. I sort of just want to stare at the first one in particular.
@jeremycowart you could probably make a living doing this photography thing.
I especially love 1, 3 and 4... you are an inspiration. I photograph children, so I know what a beautiful job this is behind the scenes. you make it look effortless. Exodus 20:6 @jeremycowart

@jeremycowart I think you misspelled "legal" as "legit".

@jeremycowart really nicely done and well played with light :-) safe to say it was a successful shoot for you :-)
@jeremycowart great photos Jeremy! Got to love the innocent looks of children just having a good time.
@jeremycowart are you using only natural lighting with these? They look great!
@jeremycowart nice work man
@jeremycowart Stunningly beautiful work... Made me smile, and I don't even like kids! ;)
@jeremycowart really nice work. I particularly like the group shots. Did you pick up any tips to help get the best out of them?
@jeremycowart attempt successful. Beautiful!
Great images. A different take on children photography. You make them look like a music band without any hassels.
@jeremycowart My man... You are the best! Great job! Kids are the fun to shoot but quite a serious challenge most of the time.
@jeremycowart those are the kind of images that their grandkids will keep forever. so lovely
@jeremycowart 3rd thought: in setting up your photos, anything you used became part of the work of art (no gimmicky props) I love these.
@jeremycowart 3rd thought: I love how anything used to set up the photo was not just a cliche prop, but became a part of the work of art.
@jeremycowart My 2nd thought was that you captured their personalities; you either know them well,or you're extremely good with kids!
@jeremycowart My first thought was, "These look like movie stills, the lighting and mood created are amazing." You're right-no "cheese" here
First, I must say that you are an incredible talent & human being. I've been taking pictures of kiddos for almost two decades. Most of the photographers I've met or admire write off those of us who choose this medium within our field. It's so nice to see a leader in our industry dip their toes in the world of children's portraits and not only rock it - but also not put a negative light on it. As always, you are honest,genuine, and someone I admire. I look forward to this new endeavor of yours in addition to all of your other work. Thank you for sharing.
@jeremycowart Love your kids' photography! Great work!!
@jeremycowart Jeremy - these images are STUNNING. SO well done, man. Mind blown.
